With school out for summer, Danville’s Monte Vista High School campus is set to be put to use for a training drill for emergency personnel Thursday morning, in the latest training for local first responders that regularly cycle through school facilities among other sites.
San Ramon Valley Unified School District spokesperson Ilana Israel Samuels said that the district receives requests from the Danville Police Department — who will be participating in the drill Thursday — as well as the San Ramon Police Department approximately every two years to use for first responder training.
“We are so thankful for their partnership and are more than happy to provide our campuses for these important emergency drills,” Samuels said.
The training is closed to the public and scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon on Thursday (July 20), with most of the campus set to be closed to the public for the full day.
“They will be utilizing the entire main campus with the exception of the gyms, pool and stadium areas, which means that the main campus, the horseshoe and the staff parking lot will be closed for the entire day,” Samuels said.
Administrative and office work for the school, as well as an ongoing speech and debate camp, will be moved off campus for the day in order to accommodate the training, Samuels said.
Other programming, including Next Level Basketball and swimming programs through the town of Danville are set to continue on their regular schedule, Samuels said, with all of the campus’ facilities returning to their regular operations on Friday (July 21).
