San Ramon Valley veterans will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid at the annual Veterans Day Open House in downtown Danville.

Military-themed exhibits, collected from local residents, will be on display for the community members at the Veterans Memorial Building, 400 Hartz Ave. from Friday to Sunday.

This year, the three-day “pop-up” museum will also commemorate the 75th Anniversary of World War II in the Philippines and the Bataan March.

Admission is free and all community members are invited to attend.

The open house will feature a display on the Doolittle Raid — a U.S. air raid on Tokyo back in 1942 in the wake of Pearl Harbor — and a presentation by the USS Hornet, a WWII aircraft carrier that is now docked at a museum in Alameda.

Other memorabilia on showcase will include an exhibit by the Bataan Legacy Historical Society, a Bell UH1 “Huey” helicopter, carvings and artwork by U.S. Army combat artists, a post 9/11-Global War on Terror display, aircraft instruments and communication gear, book signings by local military authors and children’s activities.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., Cecilia Gaerlan, founder and executive director of the Bataan Legacy Historical Society, will give a presentation about WWII in the Philippines, and at 3 p.m., there will be a presentation on the details and planning of the Doolittle Raid.

At 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, there will be a presentation on the raid’s details and planning.

In a “Living History” area, visitors will also be able to speak with local veterans about their experiences in the more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There will also be a space for the Blue Star Moms organization, where visitors can send a postcard to current service men and women overseas.

The event will take place on Friday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
