Sheep Shearing Day
The San Ramon Historic Foundation’s Sheep Shearing Day at Forest Home Farms is returning this Saturday (April 13).
In addition to the signature event – sheep shearing – the popular annual festivities are set to feature other returning favorites such as sheep herding and sheep dog demonstrations, wool spinning, access to the park’s tractor museum, tractor rides, and refreshments.

Danville scholarship program
The Danville Chamber of Commerce has announced a new scholarship program for local high school students seeking to pursue careers in business or entrepreneurship in partnership with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.
“The Danville Area Chamber of Commerce believes that for our community to thrive, we must make an investment in our youth,” said chamber board member Shayna Ronen, who is serving as chair of this year’s scholarship program. “One initiative we’re excited to offer is our College Scholarship Program, supporting our community’s youth who may be looking for pathways to become entrepreneurs. We believe the future is brighter when we give students the opportunity to achieve their dreams.”
The program is open to students living in Danville or San Ramon, or have relatives who are chamber members in good standing, who intend to attend two-year or four-year colleges. Each award will be for a minimum of $1,000.
“Students will have choices when they graduate,” Chamber president and CEO Judy Lloyd said. “Whether they decide to re-locate back home after college or spread their wings elsewhere, they will always be a part of the community fabric that makes the Danville Area such a special place. This is our opportunity to be a part of their entrepreneurial journey.”

Lend-a-Hand Day
The Town of Danville is seeking volunteers to aid seniors for its annual Lend-a-Hand Day later this month.
This year marks the 20th of the annual volunteer event, which consists of community volunteers aiding senior residents in the town with yard work including raking, weeding, and mulching.
No experience is needed to volunteer, with the opportunity open to those 12 and up with adult supervision required for minor participants.
Advanced registration is required for volunteers seeking to participate in the event, which is set for April 27. More information and registration are available here.
Contractor of the Year award
Danville-based Benchmark Construction was recently recognized across the country in this year’s Contractor of the Year Awards from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
Benchmark was among the companies from across the country celebrated in a ceremony in Virginia by the association on April 5, earning the top award for the organization’s southwest region in the $40,000 to $70,000 residential bath category.
“We are honored to receive this award, and so proud of the results of the project we achieved for our clients’ primary bathroom in Danville,” Benchmark owner Jason Bliss said. “Our clients struggled with an ineffective use of space, and design choices that didn’t reflect their needs or personal style. So, we took their dark and cumbersome layout and gave them a stunning spa-like getaway flooded with light and finished in natural materials that will carry them through the years. We loved working with our clients on this project, and ultimately couldn’t be happier that they love their new space.”
The award comes amid a particularly competitive year according to NARI, which received more than 600 entries in this year’s awards – the highest in more than a decade, according to organizers.

San Francisco history
The Museum of the San Ramon Valley is set to host former San Francisco Chronicle reporter Duffy Jennings, who will share stories from his career with the prominent Bay Area newspaper amid high-profile stories in the 1970s and 1980s including the Patty Hearst kidnapping and the Zodiac and Zebra serial killers, the assassinations of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk.Â
“Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a journalism aficionado, or simply curious about the hidden gems of the past, this is an experience you won’t want to miss,” museum organizers said in an announcement on April 1.
