The Pleasant Hill Police Department posted its condolences on social media Sunday night after the death of one of its former officers this weekend, Tobin Bolter.
Bolter was working as a sheriff’s deputy in Idaho when he was shot and mortally wounded by a suspect Saturday (April 20) in Boise, according to authorities.
“Deputy Bolter was senselessly shot while working to protect the community he so happily and dutifully swore to protect,” said the Pleasant Hill Police Department on Facebook. “During his time with the Pleasant Hill Police Department, Officer Bolter made his impact on this community through his dedicated service in several special assignments and collateral duties. He came to work and entered the streets, always with a smile.”
Bolter, 27, was shot after he pulled the suspect over around 9 p.m. Saturday on an outstanding warrant. According to investigators, Bolter never even made it to the driver’s door.
Ada County, Idaho Sheriff Matt Clifford held a press conference to announce that Bolter succumbed to his injuries Sunday morning.
“We are devastated,” said the Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
A manhunt went out for the 65-year-old suspect, who was eventually found by law enforcement early Sunday. Police attempted to peacefully take the suspect into custody, they said, but after a confrontation where the suspect allegedly fired his gun at officers, he was shot and killed, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office said.
Bolter had seven years of law enforcement experience and had been with the Sheriff’s Office since January, Clifford said. Prior to that, he worked with another police department in Idaho and in Pleasant Hill.
Brentwood police shared their condolences Sunday.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Tobin Bolter,” reads the post on Facebook, which noted that Bolter was a graduate of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Academy.
The Livermore Police Department also offered condolences and noted that Bolter had been a cadet in Walnut Creek.
But it was the Pleasant Hill force that most remembered Bolter.
“Our hearts and prayers are with Deputy Bolter’s Wife and family, as well as the Ada County Sheriff’s Office as they face this challenging time,” said the Pleasant Hill Police Department. “As we all continue to navigate this difficult process, we will provide further information on how our community can support Deputy Bolter in the future. Rest easy, Tobin.”
