Danville residents, especially those living near the I-680 freeway, will have some additional noise and vibration to deal with at night this week as the CalTrans I-680 Roadway Rehabilitation Project will be engaging in crack and seat work.

Crack and seat work involves chopping pavement into smaller sections and reseating it to create a smoother road surface. Due to the machinery involved and the amount of road surface affected, the project is expected to create noise and vibration during the hours of operation.

The crack and seat work is scheduled for the northbound lanes of I-680 between Diablo and El Pintado roads Monday, June 13 from 8:00 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Work on the southbound lanes in the same section will occur on June 14 from 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Paving for the northbound lanes is set to begin June 15, continue through June 18 and then resume on June 20. During the construction, a minimum of three lanes will be closed down in the direction being serviced.

Motorists should be alert for delays and travel cautiously through the construction zone.

  1. OMG, that must have been what I heard all last night!
I was awakened about 3-4 times by dull thuds coming over the hills from the East at 2:30, 3, etc.
Thud sounds every 2 seconds lasting for 10-20 minutes. Then stopping. Then starting up at later times.
At first, I thought that the wind was blowing something losse that was thumping in my backyard. I actually got out of bed and went outside to look, but it was coming from farther away. Almost called the police, but couldn’t figure out what the sound was to report it.
What a sleepless night I got!
Would have been nice to know ahead of time….and probably would have shut my windows IF I’d known. (NO THANKS TO CAL TRANS at all!! Lousy jerks!)
I pity the people living closer to 680, because I’m AT LEAST 2 MILES AWAY!!

  2. Glad for the info on the freeway. And be sure and let us know; down here in Alamo, when they will be coming our way. We do live where we will have the noise coming on strong. And maybe can run away for those days. Thanks!.

  3. Jayne/John: Good luck on finding anyone to tell you that type of “noise location” detail beforehand.
I doubt that Cal Trans will take on that type of responsibility…..or that the concern for you will even cross their minds.

  4. I heard it too….get over it you whiners…so what. If you enjoy proximity to freeway access there will be freeway repair once every 20 years…sheese….just ask “American”..this is part of living in an industrialized society, freeway repair is a good thing!
