What are they talking about? Bombings in Syria, Terrorist attacks in London, millions of displaced people fleeing for their lives? No. These are Democrats griping over their candidate being outspent in a special election in Georgia.
Of course all of this hyperbole is to convince the faithful to dig deep into their wallets and fork over more money to outspend the opposition. There used to be spending limits on candidates. We need to bring those back so we don’t get into this kind of fundraising paranoia.
It’s not just Democrats. Republicans do it too. Scare tactics are used on both sides now to ensure their candidate will win, and if he or she doesn’t “Oh the Horror” of the other party being in control. How did we get to this standoff, this gunfight at the NOT OK Corral and the schadenfreude at the distress of the opposition’s candidate?
The latest outrage is the Republican’s unilateral vote to appoint Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. They couldn’t wait for the Democrats to stop talking everyone to death by filibustering Gorsuch’s appointment; so they used the “Nuclear Option,” and simply voted by a majority of 51 to hustle the Judge into a Supreme seat.
Now there’s weeping and gnashing of teeth from the Dems. Oh how awful! Oh give me a break! Gorsuch is replacing Justice Antonin Scalia and by all reports he is Scalia’s clone. So NOTHING has changed on how the Supremes will vote on most cases.
The Dems can’t resist making a big issue out of a reasonable appointment. If Steve Bannon had been away for the day and President Trump accidentally appointed a liberal Democrat to Scalia’s seat, the Republicans would have gone wild.
There are two sides to every argument, maybe even 10 or 20 sides. Not everyone will agree on everything, but that’s no reason to make every disagreement into a political war.

Roz, you are aware of Gorsuch's decision in the "frozen trucking case"?
Denver Post : "In the case of a trucker’s life vs. his cargo, Judge Neil Gorsuch ruled for the cargo": http://www.denverpost.com/2017/03/23/in-a-case-of-a-truckers-life-vs-his-cargo-judge-neil-gorsuch-ruled-for-the-cargo/
CNN: "Judge Gorsuch and the frozen truck driver": http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/21/opinions/judge-gorsuch-the-frozen-truck-driver-opinion-callan/
Not a "Liberal" versus "Conservative" thing. This judge simply doesn't seem to have the ability to use simple logic and common sense.
Oh, and Roz. Concerning the troll on your previous article who commented on your saying that you were retiring, here's what you should have said: "Hey, I changed my mind.". There have been times when I myself said that I wouldn't comment further on a thread, but then some new bit of information would come up and I would chime in again. Then some ridiculous troll would say that I "promised" that I wouldn't comment further on the thread. (Wish he or she could see me LOLing at that.). I simply responded that I changed my mind. What can even a troll say to that? Maybe something like "Hey! You can't change your mind!"? Yeah, right. Nothing wrong with changing one's mind. Do it all the time.
@Sam The judge doesn't make up laws like his liberal counterparts committing judicial tyranny. The judge based his decision on the law passed by congress as all judges should do. Congress makes laws. Not judges.
Jennifer B: Miss you. Hope all is well.
@Tom F
I see that you didn't read the articles that I posted so simply didn't understand them. So here again is the last paragraph of the second article:
"Gorsuch would be wise to remember the oft oft-quoted words of Scalia, "I'm an originalist and a textualist, not a nut." Even Scalia probably would have let the truck driver thaw out at the gas station."
The wife and I are enjoying a nice Napa sparkler tonight, celebrating the confirmation of a true intellectual to the high court and not another leftist nutter.
Special thanks to HC for running such a terrible campaign… cheers!
Dear Dems: please keep your emotional indignation level so high you nominate
Elizabeth Warren in 2020.
Maybe lightning will strike twice… cheers!
The Democrats brought this on themselves by nuking the filibuster back when they had the Senate so they have nobody to blame but themselves.
Wait until Trump gets to name 2-3 more SC justices. We'll have the court packed with conservative justices for years to come.
And Sam, you can use all kinds of emotion you want, but in the Frozen man case, instead of MAKING the law Gosuch FOLLOWED the law and ruled thusly.
We know libs like judicial lawmaking, but most of us want justices to INTERPRET the law. He did so, correctly, in this case.
I'm loving all this winning.
@DKHSK
Thanks for your input, Dan, but I prefer to hear what Roz thinks because although I don't always agree with her, I like the fact that she actually thinks about issues on a case by case basis and doesn't just give reflexive knee-jerk answers based on trying to forcibly cast everything into a narrow, partisan "conservative-versus-liberal" perspective.
Sam,
"Knee-jerk" does not equal "incorrect". Just remember that, Sammy.
You used to be fun to debate. Ever since the election you guys have been awfully quiet. No BobB, Damon…etc Heck, even Dogfather has been a little tamed since then.
LOL!
Everthing you thought you accomplished…gone in a puff of smoke. Even ACA, the one thing that you guys touted is on the brink of failure.
And all for POLITICS!
Perhaps when you Democrats are in power next you'll be a little more reasonable?
Always fun.
Sam:
I recommend you look into hara-kiri.
"No BobB"
Wait, when did I become a Democrat? I did vote against Trump in both the primary and the general, and I would have preferred any of the other candidates. Obama's birth certificate? Vaccinations cause autism? Alex Jones… Give me Hillary, or Rubio, or Cruz. Here's to hoping he's impeached or resigns. I"d rather have Pence.
Sorry BobB, I got you confused with someone else…my apologies.
Dan
Sam,
Thanks for your faith in me. My take on the frozen man case is that Gorsuch's vote didn't matter because the rest of the judges on the court voted for the driver. So Gorsuch could maintain his judicial purity while the driver got the justice he deserved. Did Gorsuch know in advance it would turn out that way? I don't know, but that's the way it happened. The driver kept his job and Judge Gorsuch kept to the letter of the law.
Roz
@DKHSK,
No problem.
