The San Ramon Valley Community Against Substance Abuse selected students to receive its 2005 Gaylene Sullivan Awards, which were given out at a breakfast last week. Gaylene Sullivan died in an automobile accident in 1987, when she was a junior at San Ramon Valley High working to promote an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free lifestyle.
High school students receiving this year’s awards included Courtney Rawitch from Monte Vista; Sarah Pinsky from San Ramon Valley; Kelly Cochran from California; Blair Schmoeger from Del Amigo; Matthew Rowley from Venture; and Rachel Bernhard from Athenian. The Ernie Kern Community Service Award was presented to Officer Jeff Phelps of the Danville Police Department for his work with high school students.
