Monte Vista high school senior Mike Cassady has given a verbal commitment to attend UC Berkeley. The left-handed pitcher was on the All State Underclassmen Team, All East Bay Team, East Bay Athletic League – 1st team – and was Monte Vista High School’s most valuable player.
“The Cal coaches are great and really know the game and I wanted to be a part of taking the Bears to the next level,” said Cassady.
Cassady and All American Jeff Lyman, now playing for the Atlanta Braves organization, were instrumental in leading Monte Vista High School to the NCS championship game this year.
Cassady lead the East Bay Athletic League in ERA, shutouts and completed games. Max Prep High School Sports listed CassadyÃs performance in the top three in Northern California. Cassady was recruited by over 20 colleges and choose Cal because of the academic standards, excellent coaches, and winning program.
California Baseball Zone rated Cassady the 18th best player in Northern California. He has also has played on a number of traveling teams including the Redwood Empire Giants.
