The Lady Mustangs were victorious for the second straight year in the Northern California Girls Golf Championship held at Green Tree Golf Club in Vacaville on Monday. The team score of 421 was seven strokes better than second place Oak Ridge. Jordan Ontiveros led the Mustangs with a score of 79. The team will now advance to the State Championship to be held at Oak Valley, home of the Southern California PGA in Beaumont, on Nov. 16.

The week before, Oct. 31, the Lady Mustangs posted the low score, 439, of the NCS Tournament of Champions at Baywood Country Club in Arcata. Amador Valley was second at 466. The Mustangs were lead by Jane Lee, Ontiveros and Michelle Hatsushi, who shot 82, 85 and 87, respectively. San Ramon’s Jennifer Cohen also participated in the Tournament of Champions as an individual golfer and shot a score of 91.

Football

Monte Vista continued its perfect football season last week, beating Amador Valley 30-27 to go 9-0 and became East Bay Athletic League champions. The win also assured the Mustangs of an automatic berth into the 4A playoffs. Running back Peter Geurts led the Mustangs rushing 33 times for 174 yards and one touchdown.

The Wolves upset California (7-2) 31-26 to keep their 3A playoff hopes alive and go 5-4. They stopped California on the 2-yard line as time expired.

Monte Vista and San Ramon were scheduled to face off in the Battle of Danville last night, Nov. 10, after press time with the game starting at 7 p.m.

Tennis

The Monte Vista girls defeated San Ramon 7-2 to go undefeated for the second straight year on the tennis courts. Star Mia Giovanetti posted a win over Katie Mulloy in the battle of No. 1 seeds.

The Lady Wolves finished third in the EBAL behind Monte Vista and Foothill. They have been invited to the upcoming NCS playoffs and are seeded fifth.

Volleyball

Monte Vista beat Granada in volleyball on Nov. 1 to tighten up the EBAL standings. The final matches concluded the EBAL season this week with Foothill leading with an 8-2 record and Granada 7-3, Amador Valley 7-2, and Monte Vista close behind at 6-3. Amador Valley beat San Ramon, making the Wolves 3-7 in the EBAL.

Boys Water Polo

San Ramon boys water polo lost to De la Salle 12-8 on Nov. 1. Sam Finlayson and Taylor Herman led the Wolves with three goals each. In the NCS opening playoff game Nov. 5, the ninth-seeded Wolves beat eighth-seeded Las Lomas 13-12. Finlayson led the Wolves with four goals.

Cross Country

In the EBAL Cross Country Championships at Oak Hill Park on Nov. 5, the Lady Mustangs finished in first place.
