Despite word that the Home Depot Yardbirds is rethinking its Alamo location, Home Depot representatives and community development planners say plans for the store will not change.

“We are still committed to the Alamo location,” said Kathryn Gallagher, Home Depot spokeswoman.

Talk of parking, delivery and profitable market challenges in Alamo have made the company’s commitment seem shaky in past weeks. But county community development planner Mike Henn said complying with parking, fire and delivery standards won’t be a challenge for the company.

“These are tweaking kinds of issues as opposed to fundamental,” he said.

Parking regulations will not change from what the Yardbirds complied with in the past, since the exterior of the store will not expand, he said.

“The only exterior changes will be minor to doors and windows,” he said.

The company’s permits indicate that deliveries will take place to the front of the store in the morning before the store opens. Once it opens, if deliveries are needed, they will be dropped off in the back of the store via Las Trampas Road.

Gallagher said the company is still in the midst of seeking standard permits for the site in Alamo.

In the initial phases of the application process there were brief concerns about fire safety and the width of the driveway. Henn, however, said the gate to the Iron Horse Trail could be opened in case of a fire emergency.

Home Depot Yardbirds is still scheduled to open around fall 2007.

Alamo Improvement Association will meet this month to discuss the store.
