The San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs Sister School Program is in full swing this holiday season, with district students helping hundreds of disadvantaged families throughout the East Bay.
The Sister School Program is a philanthropic program that helps foster civic responsibility, altruism and community involvement by partnering 32 San Ramon Valley Unified School District schools with 25 schools in Richmond, San Pablo, Pittsburg, Concord, Bay Point, Oakland and Antioch.
On Thursday, Dec. 17, 16 parents from Sycamore Valley Elementary loaded a moving van with gifts for 32 families the school had adopted from Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary in Richmond, said parent volunteer Gina Turturici.
Over 300 families from the school participated in the program.
There have been many additional drives, fundraisers and Adopt-A-Family programs throughout SRVUSD, including a toy drive at Windemere Ranch Middle School and Dougherty Valley High School that collected over 700 toys for CUES and Futures in Oakland.
California High adopted 33 families at Wilson Elementary in Richmond. These children will receive multiple gifts and families will receive a grocery gift card and a goody basket with holiday treats. Cal High leadership students will deliver the gifts and will pass out milk and cookies to the classrooms before Christmas.
Coyote Creek Elementary, Diablo Vista Middle School and Charlotte Wood Middle schools all held toy drives, collecting more than 250 toys for their schools.
