Nearly 400 Special Olympics athletes from Alameda County and beyond showed off their basketball skills at the East Bay Basketball Tournament in Pleasanton last month.

The Tri-Valley RADD teams earned medals for their performances in the regional competition, as did the local RADD athletes taking part in the individual skills events. The tournament on March 9 featured 35 teams from Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties, as well as more than 70 athletes in the skills contests.

“What a wonderful and well-run event was organized again this year,” RADD coach Kay King said. “Our volunteer supporters were so fun and inspiring. Our T-RADD teams were so grateful for their support and the athletes loved having them cheer for their teams throughout the day.”

The RADD B and C teams took home silver medals while the A team finished with a bronze medal. RADD skills competitors each earned either gold or silver.

More than 200 local volunteers came out to support the competition held at the gyms of Harvest Park, Pleasanton and Hart middle schools. The Amador Valley Athletic Boosters served as event host for the 21st year.
