Chevron has announced that it is laying off hundreds of workers at the San Ramon offices that formerly served as its headquarters in the latest step of an ongoing downsizing of their operations locally.
The company submitted a notice March 28 for 600 layoffs impacting employees at its San Ramon office at 5001 Executive Parkway, which was processed April 2 according to data from the EDD, with the layoffs set to go into effect by June 1.
The layoffs in San Ramon come amid an ongoing initiative by Chevron to reduce its workforce by 15% to 20% by the end of 2026, which was announced in February – a move that affects thousands of workers, with the company reporting a total of 45,600 employees at the end of 2023.
During last year’s announcement that Chevron would be moving its headquarters from San Ramon to Texas, the company reported approximately 2,000 workers at its local office in Bishop Ranch as of Aug. 2, 2024. The latest news means that the numbers since then are set to dwindle by approximately 30% as of June 1.
Prior to the move to Texas, Chevron had already been scaling back its operations in San Ramon with its move out of the former Chevron Park site at 6001 Bollinger Canyon Drive and its sale of the 92-acre site back to Sunset Development in 2022, which is now in the midst of redevelopment plans for the property.
Chevron did not respond to a request for comment on the latest local layoffs as of Tuesday evening.
