A man died after his car crashed into a tree in downtown Walnut Creek early Saturday morning, according to city police.
The situation unfolded at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday (April 19) when a vehicle traveling eastbound on Ygnacio Valley Road struck a tree just west of the North Main Street intersection, according to Lt. Holley Connors of the Walnut Creek Police Department.
The driver, whose name was not released, was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, Connors said in a press release. The lieutenant previously told Bay City News Service that the vehicle was a Tesla.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, and no additional details were being released at this time, Connors said. Anyone with information can contact the department at 925-943-5844 or the anonymous tip line at 925-943-5865.
Saturday’s fatality occurred within about a block of another deadly collision earlier this year. Bicyclist Carlos Aguilar-Reyes, 49, of Oakland, died after being hit by a vehicle on North Main Street near Target yards from the Ygnacio Valley Road intersection on Jan. 22.
