Kidchella’s first performer this week is David Asheba Wilson, better known as Asheba. Originally from Trinidad, Asheba specializes in calypso music and released the CD “Caribbean Lullabies” in 2021. His other CDs include “Go Itsy”, “No More Monkeys”, “Children are the Sunshine”, and “In the Kid Zone”. While his music’s target audience is children, Asheba advertises that his music appeals to all ages.

On July 16, Kidchella will feature Octopretzel, a group of Bay Area educators and musicians. Octopretzel will be returning to Kidchella after performing in previous years.

“We have always loved playing on the big lawn in front of the Danville library,” lead singer Melita Silberstein told DanvilleSanRamon.com. “We plan to do our popular hits and kid favorites, in particular, ‘Dance Around and Jump Around’, which always gets the kids super riled up — in a good way!”

Octopretzel’s music can be best described as folk and their albums include “Octopretzel”, “If I Were A Song”, and “Inspiraled”. While their name comes from one of the original members’ children, Octopretzel’s lineup has changed over the years. Currently, the band features Silberstein on lead vocals and guitar, Jen Miriam Altman on percussion and puppets, David Doostan on backup vocals, Carrie Staller on percussion and vocals, and Casey Yurrow on mandolin.

Yes, you read that right: puppets. Outside of performing traditional and original music, Octopretzel also performs puppet shows and many of their YouTube videos feature the band’s puppet characters. According to Silberstein, Octopretzel’s puppeteer and “several adorable puppet friends” will be attending Kidchella this year.

Kidchella is an outdoor music event targeting families with children under the age of 11. It is completely open to the public and guests may bring portable outdoor chairs, food, and drink. Kidchella does not require any pre-registration.

The Danville Town Green is located at 420 Front St.
