Beer City Run and Howl-o-ween

City Center Bishop Ranch is gearing up for a day of Halloween-themed activities this weekend, with the Beer City Run and Festival and Howl-o-ween pet parade on tap.

The festivities kick off with the run starting at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, with half marathon, 10k and 5k routes throughout the scenic portions of the Bishop Ranch neighborhood. The half marathon run marks the finale of the Beer City Half Northern California series, with a total of $5,000 in prize money on the line along with the Golden Growler award.

Celebrations will continue with the Beer City Festival starting at 9:30 a.m. and running into the early evening, serving as a showcase for craft beer throughout the East Bay as well as live musicians, games, and other activities.

In the afternoon, the Howl-o-ween pet costume contest is set for Alexander Square at 2 p.m.

“City Center Bishop Ranch is designed to be a modern public square, where neighbors, families and friends come together,” said Jeff Dodd, senior vice president at Sunset Development in a press release this month. “Events like the Beer City Run and Howl-O-Ween remind us how much joy there is in gathering, celebrating and creating memories as a community.”

Street Smarts Bike Festival

The Street Smarts Bike Festival – rebranded this year from its previous title of the Street Smarts Bike Rodeo – is returning to the blacktop at Iron Horse Middle School on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

While attendees of all ages are welcome, the event is specifically geared towards children between the ages of 3 and 12, with a range of activities centered around bicycling – but with other options as well.

Attendees in that age group who pre-register for the event will be entered into drawings for multiple prizes, including a $300 gift card for Sports Basement.

Attractions at the event are set to range from bike safety education, live music, a bike and scooter obstacle course, face painting, and visits from local officials.

More information and registration is available here.

Scarecrow Stroll

The annual Scarecrow Stroll is underway in Danville through Nov. 10, with the downtown neighborhood currently home to the town’s highest concentration of the decorative scarecrows that serve as a creative platform for local groups and businesses – and as a means of encouraging shoppers and visitors.

While a majority of the scarecrows are centered in downtown Danville, there are others at “bonus locations” throughout the town.

Fall Jazz series

The San Ramon Library Foundation’s fall jazz series is set to continue this weekend, with the second installment of the series set for the San Ramon Library on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The George Brooks Band is set to treat audiences to a blend of Indian and jazz music that organizers described online as “a fabulous cultural blend like no other.”

The series kicked off earlier this month with drummer Akira Tana and a jazz ensemble with a blend of jazz and traditional Japanese music.

After the upcoming show, the series continues with vocalist Allan Harris on Nov. 15 and the Chris Cain Band on Dec. 6.
