A motorcyclist died on Interstate 580 west of Pleasanton after an initial crash left him down on the freeway lanes, where he was subsequently struck by another vehicle during the afternoon commute Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The situation unfolded just before 4:30 p.m. on eastbound I-580 east of Eden Canyon Road, according to CHP-Dublin.
A rider was thrown from his motorcycle after crashing with another vehicle and landed in the left lane of the freeway, where he was then hit by a truck that was traveling in the left lane, the CHP said.

The collision, emergency response and investigation closed the two left lanes of I-580 between Castro Valley and Pleasanton for nearly three hours Thursday. The freeway fully reopened around 7:30 p.m., the CHP stated.
