More than 70 state parks in and around Bay Area will offer free vehicle entry on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the California State Parks Foundation announced Friday.
The foundation is sponsoring free entry for one passenger vehicle carrying up to nine people, or for one highway-licensed motorcycle, at participating parks.
The list of parks includes well-known destinations such as Big Basin Redwoods State Park in Boulder Creek, Point Lobos State Natural Reserve near Carmel, Mount Tamalpais State Park in Marin County, and Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen.
It also features lesser-known parks, including Franks Tract State Recreation Area near Oakley, Bean Hollow State Beach in Pescadero, and Bethany Reservoir State Recreation Area in eastern Alameda County.
The free-entry day comes as the federal government no longer offers free admission to national parks on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a benefit the National Park Service had provided since 2018.
“We can’t wait to welcome more Californians to their state parks and plant the seed for continued exploration of the state’s unmatched natural and cultural resources,” said State Parks Director Armando Quintero.
