Grad Nite at San Ramon Valley High School is a tradition – a bash put on by the parents after the graduation to keep their sons and daughters safe throughout this traditionally dangerous night. SRV parents didn’t miss a beat, meeting the challenge of no gymnasium to serve as a central location.
“Go wild ’09” advised a giant gorilla in front of the theater as relatives took a peek at the transformed site Friday afternoon. Entering a gate to the right was a trip into the jungle – and this was even before the graduates arrived at 8:30 p.m.
The cafeteria and the grounds nearby were transformed into a tropical paradise, with each nook and cranny following the wild theme. There were food stands and drink stands and tiki torches aplenty. Pinball machines and carnival games, and a photo stand complete with props to remember the evening in the tropics. The scene was completed by the throbbing beat of jungle drums.
There were lounging areas for the all-night party, with one classroom lined with palm trees, lights twinkling and monkeys and butterflies perched on the tall trunks. Bean bag chairs were laid out in front of the big screen.
Congratulations, Grad Nite committee, for all the hard work that went into this fantasy night in the jungle. Your kids will remember it forever – and they’ll SRVive.
