Diablo Road tree removal

The Town of Danville has issued a traffic advisory warning of road closures and traffic control measures on Diablo Road in the coming weeks as crews take to the area for tree removal work as part of the Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail expansion project that broke ground last fall.

Drivers are advised to expect one-way traffic control measures starting Monday (March 9) on the section of road between Cydesdale Drive and Avenida Nueva from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays through March 27.

Some Saturday work is also expected intermittently, with brief full road closures of approximately 20 minutes each scheduled for March 14 between Clydesdale and Fairway drives

“Drivers should plan for delays, use caution when traveling through the area, and consider alternate routes when possible,” town officials said in a press release Thursday.

Town officials also advised drivers that the county is set to upgrade traffic signals on Diablo Road as part of its Smart Signals project, with work set to kick off as early as Monday and continue for approximately 12 weeks. Construction on that project is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some lane closures expected from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays throughout the duration of the upgrades.

DeSaulnier town hall

Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) is hosting a town hall in Orinda next week, centered around advancing equality for women in recognition of Women’s History Month.

DeSaulnier is set to be joined by Ruth Fernandez, executive director for First 5 Contra Costa, and Janet Hoy, civic engagement chair of the League of Women Voters of the Diablo Valley.

“Join us for a wide-ranging conversation on topics impacting women and families, including civic engagement, access to child care, attacks on women’s health, and more,” DeSaulnier said in a Feb. 27 announcement.

The event is scheduled for Thursday (March 12) from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Registration and more information is available here.

Youth art contest

The Town of Danville is accepting submissions from young artists for a contest in which the winner’s work will be showcased on this year’s Summer Activity Guide from the town.

The contest is open to youth ages 11 to 17, with submissions themed around “coloring outside the lines” and depicting a summer scene in Danville using colored pencils.

“Creating a cover design gives young artists a chance to share their perspective, celebrate what they love about Danville, and see their creativity recognized beyond the classroom or home,” town officials said in a press release Feb. 23. “The winning artist will receive public recognition and the exciting opportunity to have their artwork featured prominently on a guide that connects residents with Danville’s summer programs, events, and activities.”

Submissions are open through Wednesday (March 11). More information is available here.
