NCS softball
There are three EBAL teams left heading into the second week of the NCS playoffs.
In the Division I tournament, the league is guaranteed a finalist as San Ramon Valley (2) will host Livermore (3) in the semifinals on Tuesday.
San Ramon Valley, which beat Livermore in the EBAL playoffs to get the No. 2 seed, got a bye in the first round then beat American Canyon 6-3 to advance to the semifinals.
Livermore also had a bye then beat a good Liberty team 6-1 to make the semifinals.
Top-seeded Alameda faces No. 4 College Park in the other semifinal.
The big news came in the D-II playoffs where No. 9 Foothill beat three-time defending champion No. 8 Cardinal Newman 11-3 in the first round, then took out top-seeded Marin Catholic 8-6 in 13 innings in a game that took two days to finish.
The Falcons will host No. 12 Rancho Cotate in the Wednesday semifinals.
NCS baseball
EBAL has two teams left in the D-I playoffs and they are on opposite sides of the bracket, so there is no guarantee of a finalist.
Top-seeded De La Salle has survived by hanging on for a 11-10 win over Heritage in the first round, then got by Novato 4-3 to make the semifinals where they will host No. 5 Redwood on Tuesday for a spot in the finals.
Granada, the No. 6 seed, beat San Ramon Valley 6-5, then beat Alhambra 8-6 to advance to the semifinals where they will face Clayton Valley on Tuesday.
