County office closures
Contra Costa County offices will be closed Friday in recognition of Juneteenth, putting a temporary halt to a majority of county services for the day with the exception of emergency and law enforcement services. Offices will reopen Monday (June 22).
Church Street block party
There is a new summertime celebration coming to the packed lineup in downtown Danville this year, with two restaurants gearing up for their first inaugural block party in honor of the summer solstice this weekend.
Danville Harvest and Kaia’s Island Kitchen are set to bring additional festivities to the busy downtown neighborhood Saturday to usher in summer weather and activities, with the season officially starting Sunday.
“Come hang out with us for a fun-filled day – live music, kids activities and all your favorite food and drinks from Danville restaurants,” organizers said in the event description. “It’s all about good vibes, great people, and awesome community spirit.”

Community health assessment
The Contra Costa health department is seeking input from residents in this year’s community health assessment, with an opportunity to win a $50 gift card as incentive for filling out the approximately 15-minute long survey.
“Across Contra Costa, community partners are coming together to better understand how residents are doing, what helps boost well-being, and what may be making well-being harder to reach,” Contra Costa Health officials said in an announcement Thursday. “At the heart of this Community Health Assessment is a commitment to ensure voices from across our communities are heard, valued, and reflected in what is shaped, prioritized, and invested in next.”
The survey is offered in 16 languages, and will be augmented by listening sessions across the county that aim to hear from the most vulnerable and historically underrepresented residents in particular, according to the health department announcement.
A report with findings and analysis from the survey will be made available on the department’s website according to Thursday’s announcement, and will serve to guide the Community Health Improvement Plan.

‘Prisontown’ encore
Last year’s one-man show from former Eugene O’Neill Foundation artist-in-residence Lee Rosario is returning to Contra Costa this month, with an encore performance of “Prisontown” set for Lafayette’s Town Hall Theatre.
“Prisontown asks urgent questions about who belongs, who benefits, and what it costs when a community’s survival becomes tied to confinement,” Town Hall Theatre Executive Director Morgan Dayley said in a press release last week. “We are honored to partner with the Eugene O’Neill Foundation to bring Lee Osorio’s powerful work back to Bay Area audiences for two timely encore performances.”
