The San Ramon City Council is set to gather for a special Monday meeting after canceling its regularly scheduled Tuesday meeting, with a proposed sponsorship for commemorative Veterans Day banners serving as the sole action item.
The council is poised to consider approving a co-sponsorship agreement between the city and the American Legion Mount Diablo Post 246 in which the former would fund, provide and store a display of banners on city streets aimed at commemorating military veterans.
“If the Program is approved, the City will incorporate the display of veteran banners into its regular holiday banner installation schedule in recognition of Veterans’ Day. For efficiency, the veterans’ banners will be installed and removed at the same time other holiday banners are installed or removed,” City Manager Steven Spedowfski and Henry Perezalonso, director of parks and community services, wrote in a report prepared for the upcoming meeting.
Up to 10 banners would be installed at mutually agreed upon locations according to city staff, along San Ramon Valley Boulevard between Crow Canyon and Bollinger Canyon roads. The local American Legion Post would handle the application process for selecting veterans to commemorate on the posters, with the city taking on the project’s design, production, and installation and invoicing the legion for associated costs.
“The City’s contribution to the Program will be to waive the $928 Street Banner Permit Fee and the $16 per-pole rental fee,” Spedowfski and Perezalonso wrote. “The City will not store the banners following the display period; American Legion will be responsible for storing banners once they are taken down.”
The banners would be displayed from some time before Nov. 11 through Dec. 26 according to city staff.

In other business, the council is poised to consider approving two new contracts as part of its consent calendar, items considered routine in nature that are generally voted on in a mass motion.
Those consist of an agreement with G.N. Henley Inc. for ADA improvements at the Cobblestone Development on Crow Canyon Road, for an amount of up to $228,792, and with Mark Thomas for design on the much anticipated second Iron Horse Regional Trail pedestrian and bicycle overcrossing at Crow Canyon Road for up to $2,059,133.
