Incumbent Marisol Rubio remains ahead of challenger Jeffrey Joh in a tight San Ramon City Council District 4 race, though the latest ballot update showed Joh gaining ground.

As of about 3 p.m. Nov. 6, Rubio led Joh by just 82 votes, with 50.1% voter support to Joh’s 49.4%. Rubio previously led Joh 51% to 48% after the initial election night count.

There were 69,550 ballots remaining to be counted countywide, according to the Contra Costa County Clerk Recorder’s office, though it was unclear how many of those were from District 4 voters. There are 13,320 voters in District 4, and 6,366 votes had been counted as of Friday. The next update is expected by 4 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 10).

Rubio is seeking a second term in office after winning the District 4 seat in 2022, halfway through her previous term representing Division 1 on the Dublin San Ramon Services District board.

In the race for District 2 on the City Council, incumbent Richard Adler maintained a comfortable lead over opponent Chirag Kathrani, earning 68.7% of the vote compared to 31.3% for Kathrani.

Some 6,994 votes have been tallied in that race, accounting for more than 55% of the 14,580 registered voters in District 2.

Adler was appointed to the District 2 seat to fill an interim vacancy after Mark Armstrong was elected mayor in 2024. Kathrani also applied for the appointment.

None of the candidates in either of the two races had declared victory or conceded as of Friday evening.
