Commuters driving through the eastern outskirts of Danville to or from Diablo and Blackhawk were met with good news Monday morning, with a portion of Diablo Road that was set to remain closed for more days opening ahead of schedule.
The town’s Diablo Road culvert emergency replacement project was completed over the weekend, following announcements of delays brought on by weather and supply chain troubles that prevented workers from completing the project by the anticipated April 13 end date.
“Our staff and contractors made incredible progress this weekend, completing the project to the paving stage allowing us to open the road,” town officials said in a Facebook post.
Last week, officials announced that the road was expected to remain closed through Tuesday (April 18), with the completion of the project coming ahead of schedule, according to the anticipated timeline as of late last week.
The section of Diablo Road between Alameda Diablo and Ave Nueva was first closed to traffic starting March 23, with drivers being forced to take alternate routes for more than three weeks. Crews have worked since then to replace an aging culvert that was found to be causing erosion amid wet weather conditions earlier this year with a new one that was built on site and is now in commission.
In Monday morning’s Facebook post, officials said more details would be coming later in the day Monday, with some finishing touches still needing to be done. However, they said they did not anticipate any full road closures from that point onward.
