The Town of Danville is set to debut a new outdoor performance space and usher in National Small Business Week with a concert series in the heart of downtown.
The inaugural Music at the Plaza concert is set for Saturday (May 3) with a dynamic lineup of local performers taking the stage at the new Prospect Park Plaza throughout the spring and summer. The event will also officially wrap up the town’s more than $4 million investment in revitalizing the historic downtown area, according to a statement from town officials.
Ahead of the inaugural concert, the community is also invited to a celebration at 3:30 p.m. marking the conclusion of the Downtown Master Plan Catalyst Project, which brought safety-related features and beautification elements as well as gathering spaces to the area around Hartz Avenue.
Primary construction concluded in winter and final paving, striping and work on the two plazas will be complete this month, officials said. Theatre Plaza, adjacent to the Village Theatre & Art Gallery, will be available as an extension of the theater for community events.
The launch of Music at the Plaza coincides with National Small Business Week set for May 4-10. Close to 90% of businesses in Danville have nine or fewer employees, the highest percentage of “micro” small businesses in the Tri-Valley, according to officials.
The town’s investment in downtown improvements directly supports its locally owned businesses, many of which have been in Danville for decades.
Performances for the new free concert series will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and select Fridays, every other week, and the community is invited to “stop by, relax, and enjoy the show.”
The Music at the Plaza lineup is as follows:
