The San Ramon City Council is set for a special meeting Monday, following the closure of the application period for candidates to be considered for appointment to the District 2 council seat that is currently vacant.

The seat was left open after Mark Armstrong’s election to mayor.

A total of 21 applications were received by the Jan. 3 deadline, 16 of which are from fully qualified candidates. That pool consists of Richard Adler, Manoj Bhardwaj, Audra Carrion, Isabelle Carrion, Justin Cates, Erik Helgree, Chirag Kathrani – Armstrong’s opponent in last year’s mayor’s race – Diana Korpi, Kyle Levy, Mary Jo Longyear, Gabe Melendres, Harry Sachs, Rajineesh Saini, Baljit Sull, Tiffany Uhri Chu, and Veena Virdee.

“Per the City Council’s motion at its December 11, 2024 special meeting, the Council will consider those applicants who submitted complete applications and who met the minimum qualifications and recommend up to two applicants each for a maximum of 8 total applicants to be interviewed by the City Council,” City Clerk Christina Franco wrote in a staff report prepared for the upcoming meeting.

After Monday’s meeting, the next step to fill the vacant seat will consist of interviews set for Jan. 10 with the eight candidates selected by the council, followed by a swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Jan. 14.

The San Ramon City Council is meeting at 5 p.m. Monday (Jan. 6). The agenda is available here.
