Danville is set to usher in a new mayor this week as the council gathers for its annual Mayor’s Installation and Community Awards Ceremony, which serves as the platform for announcing the next council member to take the reins for the coming year, as well as a celebration of prominent community members.

Mayor Renee Morgan is in the final days of her third term leading the five-member Town Council, having been selected as mayor in last year’s ceremony, with Newell Arnerich as vice mayor.

The successors for those titles in the coming year are set to be selected in a vote by the council, where Karen Stepper, Robert Storer, and Mark Belotz are also seated.

The community awards portion of the evening will include service awards, awards of merit, recognition of outgoing commissioners and the Danville Award, which is one of the town’s highest honors.

“The evening will honor the individuals and organizations that have made a difference in the Town,” town officials said in an announcement Nov. 25.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 2) at the Village Theatre, with festivities kicking off at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public.
