Business Pitch Competition winners

Officials with the Contra Costa Community College District announced the final winners of the Business Pitch Competition at Diablo Valley College over the weekend.

The first place prize of $1,000 went to the students behind WellPulse, a 100% anonymous wellness survey platform. The second place prize of $500 went to the team behind Leftoverly, a platform for restaurants to serve excess products. The team behind Scholarise, a platform for tracking scholarships, internships, and course work for college transfers took home the third place prize of $250. The people’s choice award for the competition went to Garydian Angel, a “voice-activated wristband providing calm family safety,” with a prize of $50.

“This competition truly highlights the entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and determination of our students at DVC, and our sister colleges CCC, and LMC”, said Charlie Shi, Dean of Business, Computer Science, and Culinary Arts, and Community Education at DVC in an announcement from the district Tuesday. “Their ideas reflect the potential of community college entrepreneurs to create generational wealth and shape the future of our regional economy.”

Cleanest city in CA

Pleasanton’s reputation for positive appearances made the rounds last week when national bloggers and aggregators picked up on a listing from earlier this summer that declared Pleasanton as the cleanest city in California.

Actually the survey from the landscaping industry website LawnStarter ranked the “Dirtiest Cities in the United States” (measuring the cleanliness, or lack thereof, in 300 of the biggest cities across the country) – and Pleasanton found itself at the bottom of the list, a very good place to be in context.

Too $hort in concert

Bay Area rap legend Too $hort will be performing at the Alameda County Fair for the second summer in a row, with fair officials confirming his concert for June 25 in a press release last Friday.

The fair is slow-revealing its 2026 Big O Tires Concert Series lineup in an attempt to generate early buzz for the summer showcase and upcoming ticket sales and Black Friday through Cyber Monday deals. The Beach Boys were announced as the headliner concert one week earlier.
