Kids Day Out

Young Danville residents seeking to get out and engage with their peers following the holiday season and in the midst of breaks from school will have an opportunity with the town’s Kids Day Out.

The event for ages five to 10 will offer a variety of arts and crafts, games and other activities, with siblings and friends encouraged to join from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday (Jan. 2) at Oak Hill Park. Registration is available here

Holiday tree collection

ACI of San Ramon will be conducting holiday tree pickups along with regular trash and recycling pickups from Jan. 5 through Jan. 9. Trees should be unwrapped with decorations and stands removed. Trees more than six feet tall should be cut in half.

Those who don’t want to wait until next week can schedule a collection during the Boy Scouts annual Christmas tree pickup on Saturday (Jan. 3) for a suggested donation of $10.

More information on the ACI pickups next week is available here

Winter Wassail

San Ramon’s annual Winter Wassail celebration is returning to Crow Canyon Gardens next weekend, seeking to carry on an ongoing tradition for the city that goes back to the Norse and Old English celebration of “waes hael” or “good health.”

“Traditionally community members would gather in an orchard to sing, dance, and bless the trees for a bountiful harvest and awaken them from dormancy,” organizers wrote.

The event is set to feature performances by the city’s community chorus and Berkeley Morris Dancers, as well as garden harvest and cider tastings on Jan. 10 from 11 a.m. to noon at 114 Park Place.
