‘Aligned again’ exhibit
Danville’s Village Theatre and Art Gallery is hosting an opening reception next weekend for its new exhibit “Aligned Again.”
“The exhibition brings together a compelling collection of works from six women artists whose vivid array of styles and mediums explore connection, contrast, and creativity through diverse artistic perspectives,” organizers said in a press release from the town Monday.
Members of the public can hear from the artists firsthand at the upcoming opening reception at 10 a.m. on April 18, which marks the first day of the exhibit’s two-month run through June 19.
Used sneaker drive
The Alamo Women’s Club is seeking used athletic shoes of all shapes, sizes and conditions next week in an effort to bring them out of the closet and provide them with “new life” to reduce waste in honor of Earth Day.
“Bring your men’s, women’s, and children’s athletic shoes will be reused or responsibly recycled, keeping them out of landfills and giving them a second life,” organizers wrote in an announcement Thursday. “Bring a pair, bring a few, and invite a friend to do the same. Together, small acts of generosity can create a big impact for our planet.”
Donations are welcome from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 17 at the Alamo Women’s Club at 1401 Danville Blvd.
Danville author’s book launch
Danville author Tess Perko is celebrating her debut novel “Learning to Whistle” with multiple book launch events throughout the Tri-Valley and East Bay starting this weekend.
The book follows the story about a young woman who travels to South America while grieving her mother’s death rather than returning home to California who “finds self-discovery and healing” from the women she meets during her travels and work at a winery.
The first of Perko’s public appearances is set for Sunday (April 12) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alamo Women’s Club, followed by a meet and greet at Towne Center Books in Pleasanton from 11 a.m. to noon April 16. She will be a guest author at the Walnut Creek Library Foundation Gala at 6 p.m. April 25, and host another meet and greet at Orinda Books from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 6.
