First responders with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District joined members of the California Highway Patrol for a helicopter rescue of an injured mountain bicyclist in Alamo over the weekend.

The call came at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 24) from the bicyclist, who fell and sustained injuries as a result on the Madrone Trail near the Eugene O’Neill National Park. SRVFPD and CHP both responded to the incident, with SRVFPD’s Helicopter Rescue Team joining members of the CHP’s Air Rescue Unit for the rescue.

The bicyclist was then taken by ground ambulance for further evaluation at a local emergency room.

An SRVFPD spokesperson advised bicyclists to wear helmets and notify people about rides in remote areas such as the Madrone Trail, as well as bringing a cellphone in case of accidents.
