The once-popular Dumpling Time restaurant abruptly shut its doors this spring after two-plus years in City Center Bishop Ranch — and a replacement tenant is already lined up for the prominent unit in the San Ramon plaza.
The circumstances leading to the closure remain unclear. Representatives from the Omakase Restaurant Group, which opened its Dumpling Time location in San Ramon in December 2022, did not respond to inquiries over the past week.
City Center officials confirmed the fine-casual Asian cuisine restaurant closed at the end of March but declined further comment about its former tenant.
But they did reveal that Meyhouse, which specializes in Turkish fare and has existing restaurants in Palo Alto and Sunnyvale, will be moving into the unit in City Center some time in 2025.
“The Meyhouse team is thrilled to be expanding into San Ramon’s City Center Bishop Ranch later this year,” Meyhouse representatives told DanvilleSanRamon in a statement through City Center.
“Our mission has always been to bring the vibrant flavors and rich culinary traditions of Turkey to the Bay Area, and this new location is an exciting step forward,” they added. “We’re currently finalizing the details — including the grand opening date, menu and design — and we can’t wait to share more with you soon. Thank you for your ongoing support.”
Meanwhile, the restaurant space on City Center’s first-floor outer rim sits vacant. The Dumpling Time marquee remained illuminated inside as recently as last week, with two simple “Sorry, We Are Closed” signs on the glass doors and a public notice of ownership change application on one window as the main indicators of the tenant change.
Dumpling Time’s website and social media accounts make no reference to its San Ramon closure, but do tout its upcoming new location opening soon in the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto. The chain has four other locations in the Bay Area: Berkeley, Santana Row in San Jose and the Design District and Thrive City in San Francisco.
The 3,206-square-foot unit, which faces Bollinger Canyon Road on its main side, is situated on a corner between MIXT and Heller Jewelers midway through City Center’s south side — across from LB Steak at the entry pathway from the valet stand in the parking lot.
