Danville police rounded up a stray German shepherd trotting around downtown around 9:30 a.m. this morning. The dog passed down Railroad Avenue, the Iron Horse Trail, Linda Mesa, Hartz Avenue and then to Diablo Road.

Danville Officers Shawn Desmond, Michael Carson and David Peixoto caught the dog near the Bank of the West. Carson said Desmond reached out to the dog and it allowed him to take it under police protection.

“It was her innate ability with animals” that helped the police get the stray animal, said Carson.

The German shepherd has no dog collar, and it will be taken to Animal Services in Martinez. Fliers will be sent out to the community about the dog.
