The Blackhawk Women’s Scholarship Fund (BWSF) Charity announced last week that Pacific Rim Recycling has again made generous contributions to further their efforts of assisting economically challenged female scholars in

pursuing college educations.

These young women must reside in Contra Costa, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and be active in community service. The BWSF survives on the generosity of corporations and philanthropists to aid in the provision of these scholarships.

“We enjoy hosting celebratory fundraisers that thank not only local community leaders but the volunteers themselves,” said Steve Moore, president and chief executive officer of Pacific Rim Recycling. “These individuals devote their valuable time to assist outstanding female scholars that will undoubtedly return the favor tenfold.”

Pacific Rim Recycling spotlighted the CVS/Pharmacy LPGA Challenge by giving an LPGA Fundraising party for four charitable groups and BWSF was a one of the beneficiaries. Pacific Rim Recycling matched the price of every ticket sold to this event, which drew more than 100 partygoers and donations from others who could not attend.

Hosted by Moore and his wife Julie, guests enjoyed watching the LPGA pros from the Moore’s beautiful home. Papa’s Garage Blues and Rock band played live while El Balazo offered a fantastic buffet dinner and homemade entrées were offered by the board of the BWSF. Sharon Wechsler, vice president of Masterpiece Cookies, donated delicious cookies. DJ Music joined the party by spinning tunes until the last of the dancers went home.

“This is our eighth year granting scholarships to deserving and qualified women. Our heart-felt gratitude goes out to community heroes such as the Moore Family at Pacific Rim Recycling, Valero Refinery, the Marchi Family, Archer Manufacturing and so many others,” said Leigh Ann Chronister, publicity chairwoman for BWSF. “Thank you!”

Pacific Rim Recycling gave generously of their time, efforts and charitable gifts, she added.

“We were literally awestruck on the green as Sophie Gustafson beat the ladies world champion, Ochoa, in order to secure her first LPGA victory,” said Susan Fosburgh, vice president of BWSF. “It could not get any better with the ability to come and go from the air-conditioning of the Moore’s beautiful home and the tasty feast that followed. The LPGA was the icing on the cake, as we acknowledge having a similar mission to give a younger woman the ability to chase after her dreams and the education to make her purpose a possibility.”
