Danville has a new mayor, one who sees a fast paced year ahead and promises to work hard to keep that pace. At Danville’s 28th annual Mayor’s Installation and Community Service Awards tonight, more than 160 residents packed into the Town Community Center in order to welcome in Mike Doyle as the new mayor.
Each year, the position of mayor rotates through the five members of the Town Council, with each vice mayor stepping up to take on the duties of mayor. At the installation tonight, the council opened up nominations for the position and Candace Andersen quickly threw Vice Mayor Doyle’s name into the ring.
“As you can see from tonight’s presentation, Mike loves Danville,” Andersen said, alluding to a speech Doyle had given earlier in the evening. “He will be an excellent mayor, an excellent ambassador from the Town of Danville, or as he likes to call it, ‘Camelot.'”
Doyle was unanimously approved. Outgoing Mayor Newell Arnerich passed off the official gavel to the new mayor, and Doyle addressed those in attendance.
“Believe me, this is the thrill of my life,” he said. “Being mayor of Danville is like a dream.”
Doyle, who last served as mayor in 2005, said he is expecting the coming year to be an interesting one. “I look forward to the next year. It’s going to be a busy one,” he said. “We’re going to go over the general plan, our guide for the next 10 years. I’m going back to Washington with the other Tri-Valley mayors to try to loosen some of the money that’s floating around out there.”
He also offered some advice to the crowd. “Anyone who knows me knows that I hate long meetings and I hate long speeches,” he quipped. “A word of warning: if you plan to attend any meeting that I am running, don’t be late. You might miss the meeting.”
He then added, “I like certain words, like ‘in conclusion,’ ‘this meeting is canceled,’ or ‘this meeting is adjourned.'”
So enthused was he that he attempted to gavel the meeting adjourned, before being reminded that the council had not elected a vice mayor for the coming term. With a laugh he held off ending the meeting until the council was able to nominate and unanimously approve Karen Stepper to the role of vice mayor.

Like Mayor Doyle, I like certain words, too. Such as “tax decrease” and “spending freeze.”
So Doyle’s, “going back to Washington… to try to loosen some of the money that’s floating around out there.”
Money isn’t “floating around” anywhere. The federal government is borrowing trillions to hand out goodies it can’t affort. And our kids and grandkids will get stuck with the bill.
Take a stand against this reckless borrowing and spending. Don’t take a dime of that money. It’s been stolen from future generations.
is the mayor any relation to DEVIN ????

***Yawn.*** Boring. ***
The man has been on the council for nearly 20 years and has been mayor before.
Response to “Oh, Please” : And?
And to Chris: I couldn’t agree with you more.
Hans – It’s hardly newsworthy or interesting when a career politician becomes mayor, AGAIN. So, yep, boring. *YAWN*
