The wheels on the Fire Truck went round and round for the final four winners of the “Win a Ride to School on a Fire Truck” coloring contest. This contest, which was sponsored by the Danville Express, the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, challenged students in grades kindergarten through fifth to illustrate what being fire smart meant to them.
The first-grade winner, Victoria Sackl from Montevideo Elementary, expressed through her drawing the important message of not playing with matches. Camille Casparian of Walt Disney Elementary, the second-grade winner, showed what can happen if a fire gets out of control.
Third-grade winner Rohan Puranik, also from Montevideo, reminded all of us that being fire smart means to never use illegal fireworks, and our fourth-grade winner Lani Kwon taught us the importance of calling 911 in an emergency.
The students all enjoyed their prize – a ride to school in a fire truck – and recently the last of the rides was done.
“It is not every day that a fire truck pulls up to your house to take your child to school,” said Valerie Casparian, mother of Camille. “It will be a day our family remembers for a very long time.”
The other two winners, who received their rides in November, were kindergartner Kaitlyn Evitt from Neil Armstrong Elementary and fifth-grader Lauren Frew from Tassajara Hills.
The Danville Express, along with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, would like to congratulate all our winners and thank each of their schools for supporting our coloring contest.

Bless the firemen for what must have been the thrill of a lifetime for these children!!!!!
