The Danville Town Council on Tuesday (May 13) is set to hold its second study session to review the 2014-15 recommended town budget.

The current budget and capital improvement program proposals, as drafted by town staff, call for roughly $37.4 million in appropriations next fiscal year — up $750,000 compared to the appropriations recommended going into the first study session last week.

The meeting Tuesday is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. in the large conference room at the Danville Town Offices, 510 La Gonda Way. It is set to be the second of four public review sessions before the council considers adopting the 2014-15 budget and capital improvement program on June 17.

Town officials estimate Danville’s revenues will total almost $33 million in 2014-15, representing a 6% increase above the current year. The recommended budget calls for $29.9 million in expenditures, down 3.1% compared to 2013-14.

The capital improvement program, as currently recommended, would account for roughly $7.4 million in appropriations for 2014-15 — an increase of $750,000 compared to the program proposed before the May 6 review session. Projects include Hartz Avenue beautification, Crow Canyon Road soundwalls, lighting and landscaping, Railroad Avenue improvements and regular street maintenance (overlay and slurry seals) of designated neighborhoods.

Council budget review sessions typically run about three hours, and public participation is encouraged, according to Geoff Gillette, town public information coordinator. The other study sessions are scheduled for the mornings of May 20 and 27.

  1. There is another rea of Danville that is in dire need of beautification. It is the median and sidewalk areas between Buckingham Dr. and Oakgate Dr. on Camino Tassajara. The weeds and over growth in this area are an embarrassment to home owners. Please add this area to the budget.

  2. I was at the AMGEN Bike race to Mt. Diablo yesterday. There were signs on Diablo Road prohibiting PEDESTRIANS from walking along Diablo Road east of the main Diablo entrance. So the road there is really narrow with no shoulders, and it can’t even accommodate walkers, yet the Town thinks it doesn’t need to add bike lanes for the tens of thousands of cyclists that ride that road to Mt. Diablo every year. Guess the downtown gets all the money and the “hinterlands” are ignored.
