Danville police issued a reminder to residents this week that the use of fireworks is prohibited in the town.

Det. Sgt. Jason Haynes said he wanted to caution the community that large-scale fireworks and seemingly harmless fireworks devices, such as sparklers, are not allowed.

“With the drought leaving the hills and yards in Danville extremely dry, it could potentially be very dangerous to be out and playing with fireworks this week,” Haynes said. “In Contra Costa County alone, firefighters respond to more than 40 fires per year, directly attributable to fireworks.”

The use of fireworks is allowed at designated and monitored parks in nearby Dublin. Visit online to view a list of approved parks.
