The San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Education is set to consider signing a tentative agreement Tuesday with the California School Employees Association, after weeks of collective bargaining over new contracts for the classified employee union.

Union and district negotiators have recommended a 2% increase in overall compensation for the 2018-19 school year — to take effect retroactively on July 1, 2018 — for the district’s CSEA classified employees.

The CSEA represents classified workers, with two separate units for different district employees: Unit II represents clerical, technical, child nutrition and other classified employees, while Unit III represents paraprofessionals.

To break down the potential increase, 1.87% will be placed on an overall increase to salary schedule and 0.13% will be contributed to employee retirement plan funding for Unit II employees and a 2% overall increase for Unit III employees.

The agreement will result in an estimated $709,999 increase in annual costs for the district, according to a SRVUSD staff report.

Both union representatives and district staff have signed the tentative agreement, which now awaits approval from the school board and then the Contra Costa County Office of Education.

Earlier this month, over 300 teachers from the San Ramon Valley Education Association held a rally outside of the SRVUSD board meeting to protest what was then seen as an inadequate offer. Union negotiators have tentative plans to meet with the district to continue negotiations Oct. 30.

The SRVUSD Board of Education is set to meet at its regular time Tuesday 7 p.m. in the boardrooms at 699 Old Orchard Drive in Danville.
