Police are investigating after a man was found dead from gunshot wounds in Danville on Sunday afternoon.

The investigation unfolded after police received a call around 2:25 p.m. Sunday reporting gunshots in the area of the business park at 3420 Fostoria Way, near the Danville-San Ramon border and just beyond the Costco.

Officers arrived to find a man dead from gunshot wounds, according to police. The identity of the victim is not yet being released, pending notification of next of kin.

No other details about the case have been released.

The incident remains under investigation, and police urge anyone with information to call the Danville Police Department at 314-3702. Anonymous tips can also be forwarded to the police department via Nixle by texting ‘Tip DanPD’ and your tip to 888777.

In a community where serious violent crimes are rare, this marks the first non-vehicular homicide in Danville since February 2016 — when the town experienced the second of two murder-suicide incidents in less than a year. Before that, the town’s last murder was 2009.

Sunday’s incident also comes almost four months after a fatal officer-involved shooting in downtown Danville last November.
