Labor negotiations continue to progress for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, as less than a week after signing a tentative agreement with its teachers union, the Board of Education will look to approve an agreement with its service employees union Tuesday evening.
On Feb. 15, district management and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1021 representatives successfully reached a tentative agreement for a new three-year successor contract for 2018-2021, that includes a 3% base salary increase to take effect retroactively to July 1, 2018.
“We wish to thank the SRVUSD and SEIU bargaining teams for all the time, effort and energy they invested in crafting an agreement that supports students and employees while maintaining the fiscal solvency of the district,” Superintendent Rick Schmitt and SEIU president Cari Luchini said in a joint statement.
SEIU Local 1021 represents maintenance, operations, transportation and other service workers for SRVUSD.
Other provisions of the agreement include expansion of provisions for taking leave, provisions of probation and evaluation, restructuring of longevity, and revisions to practice for compensating and allocating leave for part-time summer bus drivers.
District staff say the total compensation increases will amount to an annual increase of $508,167 to the SRVUSD’s yearly budget.
Recently, the district also reached a tentative agreement with its teachers union, that agreement included a 4.18% ongoing compensation increase; lower student-to-staff ratios for counselors, nurses and teacher librarians; and caps on class sizes and case loads. The school board is set to consider ratification of that agreement at its March 26 meeting.
The SRVUSD will discuss giving final approval to its agreement with the SEIU at its regular meeting Tuesday 7 p.m. at the district offices, 699 Old Orchard Drive, Danville.
