The owners of Maria Maria La Cantina, a popular staple of the Danville food scene, announced on social media that the restaurant has closed its doors after about a decade of operating not far from downtown.
The Mexican cuisine restaurant, which in 2013 was placed on Diablo Magazines’s Best of East Bay list, announced the decision to close its Danville location on Camino Ramon on Dec. 23, with the owners saying they would consolidate their resources with the Maria Maria location in downtown Walnut Creek.
“We want to sincerely thank you for your support over the past decade. With a heavy heart and after much consideration, we have decided to downsize into one Maria Maria location located in Walnut Creek,” restaurant staff wrote on the Maria Maria Facebook page.
Restaurant officials added that they have had the same staff for years and are actively working to assist them at the Walnut Creek location.
“We sincerely appreciate your thoughts and kind words! This doesn't sadden anyone more than us and our employees,” restaurant officials added. “This is the slowest month of the year for Maria Maria - After management discussed this decision with staff, it was the best option for our employees to get to spend time with their families. We're looking forward to seeing you all in Walnut Creek.”
The restaurant in Danville had been one of the anchors of the shopping center at Camino Ramon and Sycamore Valley Road.
