With the school year nearing its end and many high school seniors preparing to transition to college, the Community Presbyterian Church in Danville is offering scholarship opportunities for graduating seniors in the San Ramon Valley.
Four students — one from each of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District’s comprehensive high schools — will each receive a $3,000 scholarship as a part of the program, which is seeking applicants to submit “any form of expression” that conveys “How Being FOR Others Can Change the World.”
“In January 2019, we started a community initiative called For the Valley,” said Tyler Scott, Lead Pastor of CPC. “We believe that being for others, like God is for us, can change the world.”
Submissions in the CPC’s inaugural scholarship program can be submitted in the form of a song, photo, painting, dance, drawing, video, monologue, an essay or a poem. Through these forms of expression, students are invited to think about how being there for other people can help make a difference.
CPC will be donating $12,000 in total across four scholarships, with one winner being selected from California High School, Dougherty Valley High School, Monte Vista High School and San Ramon Valley High School.
“Our students are a vital part of our community,” said Bill Haslim, Pastor of Student Ministries at CPC. “We want to acknowledge the ways they are already making a difference in our valley, and we want to encourage and invest in their future development.”
The scholarship program is open to graduating high school seniors. Submissions are due at scholarship@cpcdanville.org no later than midnight April 20. Applications will be reviewed by the FOR Scholarship team, which will contact every applicant no later than May 6.
