The San Ramon City Council held a special meeting this week to appoint a new planning commissioner for a four-year term effective immediately, following the resignation of a longtime commissioner months before his term expired.

Longtime commissioner Rick Marks left the five-member body in a resignation that was effective last Friday, shortly before the expiration of his current four-year term in June. He was first appointed to the Planning Commission in 2014.
This Wednesday, councilmembers held interviews with nine candidates who had submitted applications ahead of the March 19 deadline: Madhuri Adettiwar, Sayed Ahmed, Laxmi Bhat, Dave Curtis, Pallavi Gandhi, Sarah Gao, Srinivasa Manapragada, John McLaurin, and Rajiv Ojha.
Following interviews that night, the council voted to appoint Ahmed for a term that expires in June 2027.
Ahmed and his family moved to San Ramon in 2014, after living in Danville for two years. He is a practicing lawyer and former accountant, as well as an alumnus of the city’s Government 101 program, where he first met members of the City Council.
“I want to give back to the city,” Ahmed told DanvilleSanRamon. “I think the planning commission plays a very important role.”
Ahmed’s first meeting as a commissioner is set for this Thursday (April 13), when the Planning Commission will hold a workshop on redevelopment proposals for Chevron Park.
Sitting commissioners Corie Edwards, Eric Wallis and Gary Alpert are in the midst of terms that run through June 2025, with Commissioner Jean Kuznik’s current term set to expire in June.
