With the help of a San Ramon police officer, two men were arrested on suspicion of robbing a gas station of over $6,000 in diesel in Benicia, police said last Thursday.
Police responded to a report of a diesel theft earlier in the week at a gas station in the 5900 block of East Second Street in Benicia. A gas pump had been vandalized and two suspects were captured on surveillance footage driving two separate pickup trucks. Police shared the suspects’ license plates with other agencies in the hopes of finding the men.
On Thursday, a San Ramon police officer recognized one of the pickup trucks going north on Interstate 680 toward Benicia, and notified local police. The drivers of both trucks arrived back at the same gas station they had allegedly robbed of diesel, where they were detained by police.
Officers allege they found a piece of a damaged gas pump in one of the vehicles.
Arrested were Jose Morgado Nunez, 53, on suspicion of grand theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, receiving stolen property, vandalism and a warrant. Juan Miguel Castillovega, 32, was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime and grand theft.
