Pleasanton officers arrested a man from Richmond on Tuesday after he allegedly robbed the CVS drugstore near Bernal Avenue and Stanley Boulevard using an airsoft rifle, police said.
The suspect, 33-year-old Mario Robinson, was on active parole when he was arrested and is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail without bail. Robinson is set to be arraigned on Friday (July 12) at 9 a.m. in the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin, according to the Alameda County Inmate Locator.
According to the Pleasanton Police Department, officers received reports about a suspect wearing a black ski mask and carrying a rifle on Tuesday (July 9) around 9:30 p.m.
PPD said the suspect entered the CVS and “demanded money from the cash register,” before emptying roughly $230 into a duffel bag and fleeing the scene. Police said the store employees were safe because they had locked themselves in a back office.
Officers then tracked Robinson along Stoneridge Mall Road and arrested him around 10:15 p.m. after a brief foot pursuit, according to PPD. They recovered a duffel bag nearby which contained the airsoft rifle and black ski mask — both were collected as evidence — along with the money.
Robinson is now facing robbery and parole violation charges, along with one charge of obstruction, according to the inmate locator.
While the inmate locator shows that Robinson does have a bail set at $105,000 for the robbery and obstruction charges, PPD Lt. Erik Silacci told the Weekly that when someone is held on a parole violation, “they are not eligible for bail until a bail hearing and/or parole violation is dropped.”
Silacci also said that while he couldn’t confirm why Robinson is on parole, he is aware that Robinson is a suspect in other robberies in surrounding cities like Livermore, San Ramon and Newark.
He said those cases are being consolidated by the district attorney’s office, which means Robinson could soon be facing more charges from those cities.
He also said there were no additional charges for Robinson using the airsoft rifle because it did not qualify as a firearm.
