A Danville man is currently in police custody on felony battery charges following a standoff with police Monday that led to the evacuation of several neighboring properties.
DPD officers arrived at the scene at the 1000 block of Hill Meadow Place on Dec. 30 at 9:11 p.m. in response to a call alleging an attack by the man living there, at which point they realized the 44-year-old man had barricaded himself inside his home, according to a statement from police Tuesday.
“Danville Police officers established a perimeter around the residence and out of an abundance of caution, evacuated some of the nearby homes,” DPD officials said.
An hours-long negotiation process ensued, with a SWAT team from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office joining DPD officers before the man ultimately surrendered “without further incident,” according to police.
“The Danville Police Department wishes to thank the community for their cooperation during this incident,” DPD officials said. “The safety of our residents remains our top priority, and we are relieved that this situation was resolved peacefully.”
The man was set to be booked into the Martinez Detention Facility as of DPD’s statement Tuesday morning on felony battery charges. No further information was available as of Tuesday afternoon.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with DPD asking those who might have additional information to contact Sergeant Dan Lynch at dlynch@danville.ca.gov.
