Asked at Peet’s Coffee, Danville
Do you go Christmas Shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving?
Robert Enea, developer: I don’t because my wife does all the shopping and there is a lot of shopping with six kids. I give money to my wife’s friends and they buy something for her from me. They know better than I what she would like. And there is no pressure to keep something that she doesn’t really like or want just because I bought it for her.
Robine Ennis, homemaker: I’m not going to this year but on the years when I’m hosting my family for dinner I like to go out the day after Thanksgiving just because I’m bored and I want to get away from the relatives. I find it relaxing to go to the mall. I like to people-watch, get a latte and see what everyone is buying.
Linda Gordon, retired nurse: Never! I used to go shopping on that day but now it’s just too overwhelming. The sales might be great but there are just too many people and too much traffic, parking is awful. The stores are messy and I feel like I’m grabbing things.
Ernie Simpson, financial advisor: No, I don’t enjoy doing things when everyone else is doing them, including my vacations. I go in the off-season. I need a peaceful environment to make good decisions.
Emma Casson, sales: I usually wait until a couple of weeks before Christmas. I like to go shopping with my friends so I can get an idea of what they like before I actually buy for them.
