Several youths smashed cars and splashed paint on a local business in Danville after the Mustangs fell prey to the Wolves on the football field Saturday afternoon.

Teenagers vandalized cars and engaged in a fight after the San Ramon Valley High School Wolves blew out the Monte Vista Mustangs in a 34-7 rout in the North Coast Section football playoff match Saturday afternoon, said Danville Police Chief Chris Wenzel.

The game was held at the San Ramon Valley High football field at 1 p.m.

Kids bashed, egged and vandalized cars after the game, police said.

“The damage was caused around the high school,” Wenzel said. “Overall, it was not too bad. The bottom line is these things happen after an event. Our assumption is that it had to do with the event.”

He said a fight broke out at approximately 4:15 p.m. However, it was over by the time police arrived.

“We didn’t catch anybody,” Wenzel said.

He said sports events often evoke emotional reactions.

“They get excited,” he said. “They are not thinking right. There’s nothing good about it. It’s a lack of respect for people’s belongings.”

He said the loss may have frustrated some teens.

“They are unhappy with the event,” he said. “They do ridiculous things.”

“In the end, it’s the adults that suffer,” he added.
